Building Your Team

Want to enjoy business freedom, the choice to work every hour your business operates or not?

Turning staff into a team is the number one priority that will give you that outcome.

If you have information in your head that your staff don’t how does that benefit your business?

If you know how to solve problems your staff don’t or can’t, how does that benefit your business?

Sure, you might say, “what happens if I train my staff to be as knowledgeable as me and that leave?”

My answer: “what happens if you don’t train your staff, and they stay… for years!”

Train them or don’t train them, its not the real reason why they leave.

People get bored working in the same job doing the same work year after year. People need to grow, to learn, to develop themselves, to take on new challenges. They want to feel valued. Not kept ignorant. If you can’t trust or rely on your staff, maybe you need better staff!

If you can trust them and rely on them, why don’t you?

If you want to have a business where it can work without you being there, your staff have to know how to solve problems as well as you do. That means you need to start training them now, today, not the day before decide not to turn up for work anymore.

Make it your priority if Business Freedom is what you want. Don’t say you’re too busy to train them either, you can’t afford the time not to train them.

The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing and hoping something better will happen.

Successful people have as much time in their day as unsuccessful people. You become more successful by doing different things, not the same things.

Allocate 2-4 hours every week to train your staff. Do it every week, make it a priority. Tell them you need to train them and help them to help you to be more empowered to do this simple, yet powerful task.

When you train your team they don’t feel like dummies, where they are constantly getting things wrong and being told it by the boss. YOU got sick of that environment, so that’s why you left and started your own business remember!

As you probably personally only ever worked for someone who didn’t appreciate you or train you intensively, you probably felt like you were working for a jerk. Then one day you decided to work for yourself and your business grew to the point it needed staff to help with the workload. But as your only training was by experience of how to manage staff, instead of working for a jerk, you became the… jerk!

Guess what your lack of training with staff can be the cause of a self fulfilling prophecy. You don’t want to train them in what you know, in case they leave. Staff commonly leave because they get sick of working for a boss who won’t empower them, train them, rely  on them or give them responsibility to learn without being jumped on for any little mistake.

By not training staff, you are in part causing them to want to leave so they can learn and grow as a person who accepts more challenges and responsibilities.

If you can see this as a powerful insight, you’re ready for team building and greater rewards from business ownership.

Part of team building is developing your people skills.

People skills are wonderful and profitable to have. Experience has shown people and leadership skills are the last subjects business owners study and learn. Yet all businesses are about people. People as customers, as suppliers and as employees, not to mention business owners. The more you learn about people (or any other subject) the better you get at working with them.

For example can you pick a great attitude employee on the phone or in an interview in 5 minutes to 3 hours, or do you need to hire them and wait a few days, weeks or months?

Clients of Business Building Mentors learn this as part of The Business Freedom Workshop Series. They learn how to pick great attitude employees in minutes using given questions and definitions of what a great attitude person looks and talks like.

Without a team of great attitude people working in your business you will never be free to choose to work or not to have your freedom. Learning what a great attitude person looks and talks like is a tremendous skill to develop.

To learn more on this subject look for other articles on recruitment and training. Or attend a Free Business Seminar on the 7 Steps to Business Freedom through the Contact Us page.
